Clinical pilates – science inspired by artsWay back in the ‘90s, Australian physiotherapists began to include pilates exercises into their therapy regime. Interestingly the exercises can be traced back to an artistic form of dance in the 1920s. The exercises have gone through much evolution to suit the needs of the fitness and health rehabilitation industry. Australian specialists overcame the initial shortcomings of the pilates by combining pilates exercises with trusted concepts of physiotherapy, which were valid and relevant. Joseph Pilates – the pioneer who showed us the way
It was Joseph Pilates whose theories form the foundation of stability and rehabilitation. Clinical pilates and real time ultrasound imagingA real time ultrasound assessment allows the patient to view their abdominal and spinal muscles in action and allows the physiotherapist to check whether they are working correctly to support their spine. At beleura, a functional assessment is done by one of our trained clinical pilates instructors, also known as a pilates trainer. Each patient is then prescribed an individualized progressive program using clinical pilates equipment i.e. reformer and trapeze table, accompanied by pilates instruction or are placed in our pilates floorclass program.
